A modern fable in verse. Wise Monkey Wrought scroll N.001, "The Monkey." A monkey sat in a tree above the road. He had a notebook and a pencil. The road was busy. It usually was. He settled high above the street, a pencil sharp, a notebook neat. The humans passed. Nobody stared. He licked the pencil, and was prepared. They pressed the crossing button twice. The lights considered the advice. They bought a time-saving machine, and spent the time to keep it clean. He wrote it down with steady hand. Each morning came, all freshly planned. The entries matched from week to week. He underlined. He did not speak. The notebooks hang there, ripe as fruit. The humans pass on their commute. He sharpens up and starts anew. The street has plenty more to do. The humans call it progress. A circle walked faster is still a circle.
