A modern fable in verse. Wise Monkey Wrought scroll N.013, "The Wasp at the Picnic." The wasp had not been invited to the picnic. The wasp did not consider this relevant. A wasp arrived at half past one, unasked, unwanted, unannounced. It circled once to scout the fun, then on the open jam it pounced. The family flapped with paper plates and waved their arms in frantic war. The wasp ignored their nervous states and helped itself to slightly more. It walked the rim of every glass, it judged the ham, approved the brie. It let the flailing humans pass and dined upon the spread for free. The picnic packed in mild defeat, the humans fled the wasp's domain. It sat upon the emptied sheet, a monarch of a sugared plain. The humans brought the food. The wasp brought the confidence.
