A modern fable in verse. Wise Monkey Wrought scroll N.016, "The Snooze Button." The snooze button does not extend sleep. It opens negotiations. The clock went off at six fifteen, a deal struck by the evening's man. The morning's man had not been seen. He never read or signed the plan. The thumb came down. The case adjourned. Nine minutes, neither sleep nor day. In them no rest was truly earned. And no alarm was kept away. Three further times the case was seen, same evidence, same weak defence. The thumb remained the go between. The clock absorbed the whole expense. At seven, sleep released its claim. The day began, behind, in debt. The button wore no badge of blame. It only tabled the regret. Nine minutes, four times, bought nothing. The negotiation continues tomorrow.
